The Tree of Life Hermitage
The Tree of Life Hermitage
I've always said, "It's good to know. But it's better to Know." Why? We can have read all the books, earned any number of theological degrees and, still, have never had an experience of the One - an experience to which we can only point and yet is more real to us than all we know. I believe, ideally, a good combination of knowledge and experience is best which is why I'm dreaming The Tree of Life Hermitage. Here is a place where I'll be offering some of the programs I've created, along with new ones, weaving together the experiential with the understanding.

Back by popular demand! I'm offering a 20-class study of the Bhagavad Gita, in person at the Tree of Life Interfaith Temple, Sundays, 3:00 - 4:30 PM EST, January 12th through May 4th. This class will be 1/3 experiential and 2/3 discussion and sharing. We'll be using the first edition of my book, An Ordinary Life Transformed: Lessons for Everyone from the Bhagavad Gita, pictured above with the beautiful image painted by our Rev. Ahjan, which you can purchase directly from me. If you happen to have the second edition, released by Wipf and Stock in 2021, no worries! The editions are exactly the same except my publisher updated the bio information and changed the cover.
The experiential part of our study will include any combination of walking meditation, Mantra Prayer, simple circle dance and contemplative meditation. Each week we'll focus on a chapter, and you'll be asked to consider the Questions for Reflection at the chapter's end which will guide our discussion and sharing time. We'll also be learning and chanting several slokas in Sanskrit. I'm very excited about integrating the experiential aspect with our book study of this Song of the Divine!
There are already 9-10 beloveds participating from our recent Chanting in the Holy class along with a couple of new folks. Kindly know this class is appropriate for all whether you are new to the Gita or have long read its wisdom.
Sundays, 3:00 - 4:30 PM EST, January 12th - May 4th (Double 3-hour classes, Feb. 23rd, March 23rd and May 4th.)
Fee: $300 ($15 a class)
To register: As soon as the Temple posts the link, I'll let you know!

That's the Thing About Love
A Celebration of Valentine's Day Retreat!
In Person & On Zoom!
Don Williams sings in That's the Thing About Love, "You can't have it until you give it, and you can never give it enough, oh-oh, that's the thing about love." When my granddaughter was maybe 6-7, I said to her one day as we cut out paper hearts on her floor, "You know, the more love you give away the more you have." She looked up at me quite perplexed and said, "Grandma, I don't know if I believe that!" Hah!! Today, when I remind her of that truth, she just smiles sweetly at me with that, "Okay Grandma," smile and I just say, "Try it sometime. You'll see. That's the thing about love."
You're most lovingly invited to join us Saturday, February 15th, 1:00 - 4:00 PM EST, at the Tree of Life Interfaith Temple or on Zoom for a celebration of love! Come and PLAY with abandon, LOVE without need, and DISCOVER what surprises you! In the first half of our time, you'll enjoy engaging in creative journaling exercises designed to tickle your heart's desire, and we'll join our voices in Mantra Prayer and our footsteps in simple circle dances. In the second half, you'll be guided on a sacred journey to the magical Kingdom of Love where you'll be invited to excavate what it is your heart is yearning to birth next.
The fee is $30 which will go to support our Temple and SHARE, our local food pantry. Over the holidays the pantries are well stocked but can become in need again by February. Know that you'll be helping to spread a lit' love to those in need as you also give yourself a special day of love . . . because, as we know, that's the thing about love!
Kindly save the date. As soon as the Temple posts the link, I'll let you know!
